1. What this site is
Populy collects Like and Dislike votes on public figures and turns them into a popularity score. A score is a tally of what self-selected visitors clicked — opinion, not a statement of fact about the person, and not a scientific poll. The mechanics are on how scores work.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to use an online service without a guardian's consent where you live.
3. Voting
You may vote for each person once per day (the day rolls over at midnight US Eastern time). Manipulating a score is prohibited — automated voting, cycling IPs, proxies or VPNs to vote repeatedly, and coordinated vote campaigns. Where we detect manipulation we may invalidate the votes, recalculate the score, and block the networks involved, without notice.
4. Comments
Comments are reviewed before they appear. Do not post:
- defamation, harassment, threats, or discriminatory content;
- private information about anyone;
- sexual content or anything sexualising a minor;
- impersonation, advertising, spam, or links (URLs are rejected at submission);
- anything else unlawful.
We remove comments that break these rules without notice and may block the network involved. See the ethics policy for the standards we apply.
5. What happens to what you post
You keep your rights in your comments. By voting or posting, you grant Populy a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store, display, aggregate, analyse and create derived data from your contribution, and to provide that derived data — which is aggregate and carries no identity — to third parties, including commercially. You confirm what you post does not infringe anyone else's rights.
We may also remove or stop displaying any contribution at our own discretion and without notice, including one that breaks none of the rules in section 4. Nothing in these terms obliges us to store, keep, or restore what you post. Where the law requires that you be told why something was removed, we will give a reason as far as we are able — the site holds no account and no contact details for you, so in most cases we have no way to reach you.
6. Quoting our data
You may quote our scores, rankings and comments if you credit Populy and link to the source page. Not covered: bulk or automated collection, wholesale republishing, presenting our data as a scientific poll, or using it to harass or profile an individual. Need more? Ask us.
7. People and images on the site
We list public figures and characters from fiction, and show images of them. Images are public domain or freely licensed. If you find an image that does not meet that standard, or see any other problem with an image's rights, tell us through the contact form and we will promptly correct or remove it. The same applies if you are listed here and want something corrected or removed.
8. Availability
The site is provided as-is. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time without notice.
9. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent the law allows, Populy is provided without warranties of any kind and we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, from visitor-posted content, or from reliance on our data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Your responsibility to us
If a claim is brought against us because of something you posted or did here, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the resulting costs and damages, to the extent the law allows.
11. Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the last change. Continuing to use the site means you accept the new version.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, where the operator is based, and the Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance over any dispute arising out of or relating to them. Neither of those removes protections you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, including any right that law gives you to bring proceedings in your own courts.
